About
Subjects were required to shower with soap and water 30 minutes after application. Following 5 minutes of drying time, the left axilla was wiped with alcohol towelettes which were assayed for testosterone content. Study results show a 13% and 17% increase in testosterone exposure (AUC) and maximum testosterone concentration (Cmax), respectively, compared to baseline in these females. Serum concentrations of testosterone were monitored in the female subjects for 72 hours after the transfer procedure. The males had covered the application area with a T-shirt. At 2 hours after the application of AXIRON to the males, the females rubbed their outer forearms for 15 minutes on the axilla of the males.
These included decreased levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and increased levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Testosterone therapy is effective in the short-term for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women. To take advantage of its virilizing effects, testosterone, often shortened to T, is administered to transgender men and other transmasculine individuals as part of masculinizing hormone therapy, titrated to clinical effect with a "target level" of the average male's testosterone level.
However, the doses used varied from 30 mg to 120 mg. The pump is capable of dispensing 90 mL of solution in 60 metered pump or twist actuations. Each metered-dose pump is supplied with an applicator.
Inactivation of testosterone occurs primarily in the liver. There is considerable variation in the half-life of testosterone as reported in the literature, ranging from 10 to 100 minutes. The mean steady-state DHT/T ratio remained within normal limits and ranged from 0.17 to 0.26 across all doses on Days 15, 60, and 120. The major active metabolites of testosterone are estradiol and dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
The active ingredient in both Axiron and Androgel is synthetic testosterone, and both medications consist of topical gel that allows the testosterone to absorb through the skin. If you have low testosterone symptoms, talk to your doctor about ways to boost levels such as hormone replacement therapy. On the other hand, 5α-reductase inhibitors may prevent or reduce adverse androgenic side effects of testosterone like scalp hair loss, oily skin, acne, and seborrhea. The changes include removing language from the boxed warning related to an increased risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes and adding a new warning about increased blood pressure.
